Gutter Cleaning

     Gutter Cleaning

It's the job that many of us hate to do but can’t circumvent because it needs to be done! Do you know which job we are talking about? Gutter cleaning is the procedure of clear out the dirt, muck and all debris that settles at the mouth of our gutters.

It is very essential to keep the gutters of your home clean all the time as is keeping your house spic and span.  Repairing your gutters at regular time intervals can prevent a possible leakage or overflow which may inundate the foundation of your house through water seepage.

All the debris that accumulates and chokes up the gutters leaves our home exposed to water scathing. So get ready to follow this step-by-step procedure for cleaning your gutters:

Choosing the starting place

Usually downspouts are situated near the corners of the house. So, it's the best place to commence the cleaning job.  And as you start from the origin, you push the debris away from it eliminating the risk of accidentally adding more debris to the spouts.

Setting the height for the extension ladder

As your spouts run vertically downwards along the corners of your house, you need to climb up In order to clean them.  It is recommended to use a ladder having an s-shaped hook to attach a bucket to it so that you can collect the debris in it.

If you can’t find such a ladder use a polythene garbage bag. This not only reduces the work to be done but facilitates easy disposal. Wear hand gloves while cleaning your gutters so that you can avoid accidentally injuring yourself from any sharp objects in the gutters.

Cleaning the gutters

Start off with the part that is closest to the downspout.  Take out the debris using a hand shovel or a digging tool and dump it in the bucket or rubbish bag. If any pieces cannot be picked up, use your hands to collect them safely.

Spraying the gutter

After removing all of the larger debris, it is time to wash the gutters. Take your garden hose and start rinsing the gutter starting from the mouth of the downspout. Keep spraying with the spray equipment till the all the debris in the gutter has been removed.

If you have a choked up downspout, you have to clear it using one of the three available techniques. Kick off by trying to blow away the clog using the spray equipment on your water hose. If it doesn’t help, you can use the spray attachment to forcibly channelize water into the spout so that the clog is chucked out from the downspout. If neither or these seem to do the trick, then you will have to use a plumber’s snake and insert it down the spout to disengage the clot from the pipes.

Finally scour your gutters for any holes, slits or cracks and if you find any repair them immediately. Hence, there is one thing that everyone will agree on and that is no matter how repugnant gutter cleaning may seem to be, in reality it is a pretty simple task.
