Do Gutter Screens Work
Rain gutters can’t do their job efficiently unless the homeowner does his/her job, which is keeping them clean. It doesn’t take much to clog the gutters. It can be nearly anything ranging from leaves to seeds and other debris. If the homeowner leaves the gutters clogged for too long, the homeowner can suffer from major problems such as rotten wood, frozen walkways, leaky basements, and other similar problems, which usually results from clogged gutters.
Many people don’t like to clean their gutters because it can be a messy and a time consuming job. Others fear of heights from standing on a later or don’t think they have proper equipment. A general rule of thumb is that proper gutter cleaning needs to take place at least twice a year. At times, cleaning them twice or thrice is not sufficient, particularly if homeowner lives in a wet climate area or the homeowners have trees and other plants nearby.
If the thought of cleaning out gutters is not a problem for the homeowner, then a gutter guard may be the answer. The gutter guard is an old fashion solution, yet offers a wide variety of types, such as plastic and metal. The most popular kinds are the gutter screens.
Gutter screen systems are often the cheapest and simplest to install of all the gutter guards. However, depending on their mesh size, they may still allow some seeds and buds to get into the gutter. The gutter cover is a popular variety that looks like a cap or covers and goes right over the gutter system; as the water flows into the slots, it goes down the slots off the roof. The slots are small enough to where most debris can’t fit.
Hybrid gutter systems are a combination of gutter screen and gutter cap systems, usually containing a finer mesh covering than most screen systems. These covers allow water to flow through but debris is blocked out. Most experienced contractors highly recommend this gutter system over any other solution available on the market today.
Still trying to figure out which gutter system is suitable for one’s needs? Well, there are several factors which can be taken into consideration. Many questions may also be asked prior to purchasing a gutter; is the homeowner comfortable with them or does he/she have time to clean out gutters? Doing some research and weighing all options before deciding which system will work best for most homeowners. Also, it is notable that no gutter guard is completely fool proof, cheaper ones will sometimes still allow debris. |
